CORAL Workshop & Microgrant Result in Educational Reef Video
CORAL is proud to have supported the recent production of a short video designed to educate the public in Cozumel, Mexico about the ecological services that coral reefs provide. As an outgrowth of CORAL’s Conservation In Action workshop series, the local tour operator association, in partnership with the Cozumel National Marine Park, utilized a CORAL microgrant to produce this educational video.
It has been showing on local television and will soon be seen as a trailer by all patrons at the local theatre in this popular Caribbean destination. The production and local distribution of the video reflects a growing alliance between the marine recreation industry and the national marine park that CORAL has fostered. It is part of a public awareness campaign which seeks to both educate the public on the value of coral reefs and solidify a working alliance among the government, private sector, and wider community. CORAL is currently working with local stakeholders to implement the next phase of the project, which will involve development of training courses on good environmental practices for recreational scuba diving, snorkeling, and boating.
