Awareness & Outreach

Despite a growing awareness of environmental issues, many people still don’t realize how urgent it is to protect coral reefs today. Research proves that we only have 5 to 7 years in which to make significant changes in our behavior if we want reefs to survive.

Coral reefs in 93 countries have been damaged or destroyed by human activities, which is why CORAL is dedicated to spreading the word through outreach initiatives. CORAL Calendar

Every year CORAL gathers the most stunning underwater photographs from its extensive photo collection to produce a glossy, full-color wall calendar available exclusively to our supporters. Featuring colorful coral landscapes, amazing coral reef critters, and photo highlights from CORAL’s field work, the calendar is eagerly anticipated by our membership each year. Annual Report

Like most nonprofit organizations, CORAL produces an annual report to let our supporters know how much we’ve accomplished in the previous year. Filled with images and stories from the field, the 2008 annual report brings the personal side of conservation to light. Read it now »

International Year of the Reef

As a founding member of the International Coral Reef Action Network, CORAL was a collaborator in the first International Year of the Reef (IYOR) in 1997. For that event, CORAL hosted online support for event organizers, sponsored a traveling coral reef photo exhibit, and established the first Bonaire Dive Festival.

CORAL was proud to be an official Friend of IYOR for 2008. This worldwide campaign sought to raise awareness about the importance of coral reefs and motivated action to protect them. CORAL returned to Bonaire to rekindle the IYOR spirit and reach out to new audiences with the message that we can save coral reefs. The first IYOR carried a grave message about the future of our reefs, but today we have the tools to take action. Learn more »
