Through the CRSD model, CORAL provides local communities with the knowledge, skills, and resources to protect their remarkable coral reef systems. The following is a list of our past CRSD project sites.

Asia-Pacific

Papua New Guinea Lying just south of the equator, at the nexus of the Coral Sea and the South Pacific Ocean, Papua New Guinea (PNG) boasts one of the world’s most spectacular coral reef systems. Coral reef experts estimate that PNG’s underwater ecosystem includes approximately 40,000 square kilometers of coral reefs, sea grass beds, and mangrove forests! But like many places in the Indo-Pacific region, the natural resources of the reefs—and the local communities and businesses that depend on them—are caught in the middle of a struggle between this developing nation's economy and the desire to protect the reefs for future generations. U.S./Caribbean/Latin America

Belize Situated between southeast Mexico, Guatemala, and the Caribbean Sea, Belize is well known as one of the best diving destinations in the world. With approximately 60 miles of coral reefs stretching along its coasts, Belize’s diverse dive sites boast stunning atolls, coral canyons, sheer cliffs, and caves. But like so many coral reefs around the world, Belize’s reefs are threatened by the effects of climate change, overfishing, pollution, coastal development, and other human-induced stresses.
