Disappearing Coral Reef Has Offshore and Onshore Impact

Lantana, FL - "South Florida's coral reef is disappearing at an alarming rate. But you may not realize just how important it is to the area.

The coral reef located just a mile off Palm Beach County could be going extinct according to a recent government report, and that has an impact on everybody that lives down here.

"People don't realize that there's a Coral Reef here in Palm Beach County."

Not just a coral reef, but the third longest coral reef that stretches all the way down to the dry tortugas. A living, breathing thing, that faces extinction by the end of the century. But what's killing it over the past 20 years? Ed Tichenor of Palm Beach County's Reef Rescue says a number of things from run-off pollution, divers dragging anchors along it, to beach renourishment projects."
