September 28 is Green Consumer Day—a time to reflect on our purchasing habits and how they impact the environment. Avoiding products that contain corals or shells is an important way to protect coral reefs, but you can go further by making all of your purchases more sustainable. Limit your use of disposable goods; buy products that use minimal packaging and sustainably-sourced materials; choose locally-grown organic food whenever possible; and reduce your total purchases to help lower energy use and waste.
