Overfishing contributes to coral reef destruction worldwide. Download a seafood guide [17] and carry it with you when you grocery shop. If you know which fish are harvested sustainably and are safe to eat, it’s easy to make the right choicest.

Dear Friends,

Earlier this month, CORAL attended the 11th International Coral Reef Symposium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida—a meeting that gathers the world’s foremost coral reef conservation leaders to discuss strategies for protecting our reefs. We’re proud to report that CORAL’s targeted method of creating effectively managed marine protected areas was identified as the best way to protect coral reefs.

In this issue of E-Current, we share an incredible opportunity for you to double your donation to CORAL to benefit our work along the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. Our new Web site is finally live, we graduated the first class of CORAL Reef Leaders, and we tell you how to join CORAL staff in Bonaire to watch coral spawning. To top it off, CORAL was featured in two Time magazine articles: "Coral Reefs Face Extinction" and "Coral Under Siege." Read the online version [29] here.

It’s been a busy summer at CORAL and we look forward to sharing our news with you!

Brian Huse

Cheers,
