This is the International Year of the Reef, an observance that has special meaning for Maui.  Although protecting reefs and their marine life is a mandate of the state Department of Land and Natural Resources, the County of Maui is spearheading a community task force known as Ola Na Papa I Pulama ia, or cherish the living reefs.
