Maalea, HI -- Maui County is supporting reef awareness campaigns that include educational signage at beaches as attempts to tackle the problem of cigarette butt litter during the “International Year of the Reef.”  Visitors and locals alike will be educated through the “Respecting Coral Reefs” signage program that has been in the works for more than a year. It was developed with the help of Liz Foote and Project S.E.A.-Link, the Coral Reef Alliance, Maui Land & Pineapple Co., and the state Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Aquatic Resources.
