Traveling Photo Display

Traveling Photo Display We recently wrote about a permanent photographic display installed at Cozumel's Puerta Maya Cruise Terminal that will reach over a million tourists each year. Additional CORAL funding helped with the creation of a newly-unveiled traveling version of the display, which is aimed at inspiring local people to support conservation. The beautiful array of local wildlife photographs, entitled "Take Only Memories," is currently exhibited at Casa de la Cultura de Cozumel, after which it will move on to other public places and local schools.

Photo Contest Winner Announced! Photo Contest Winner Announced
Congratulations to Jason Spitz from Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, who is this month's winner of the E-Current Photo Contest. Jason's outstanding image shows two banded coral shrimp sharing the shelter of a barrel sponge in Roatan, Honduras-one of CORAL's project sites. These crustaceans, known as cleaner shrimp, help keep other reef species healthy by removing parasites and injured tissue. Bleaching in Indonesia Leads to Massive Coral Mortality CORAL Helps Inaugurate Reef Exhibition at the Smithsonian
Stunning. That seems to be the consensus from CORAL staff, directors, and community members who attended the opening of the Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef exhibition at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C. A rousing speech by CORAL's Rick MacPherson ensured that the arresting artwork drove home a strong conservation message for the planet's living coral reefs.

Reef Etiquette Sign Installed at Kahekili Beach Park Reef Etiquette Sign Installed at Kahekili Beach Park
It's been a long time coming! After months of hard work by CORAL staff and local community members, a beautiful and highly-visible new sign was installed near the popular Kahekili Beach Park to educate visitors about coral reefs and how to behave responsibly around them. The sign's dedication ceremony included a traditional Hawaiian Blessing, and community members came together for a celebratory potluck. Read the story »
