Project Oceanography is a science education program designed to enhance science and math learning in the middle school classroom. The program was created in 1996 at the University of South Florida College of Marine Science. This cost-effective program is readily accessible to any classroom with cable television or access to the interne. It has unlimited scale-up potential, and is provided free of charge to all participants, making it an excellent resource for students in disadvantaged schools.
During the academic year, Project Oceanography connects middle school students with scientists and delivers earth science research to the classroom. Practicing scientists teach half-hour programs that cover topics such as manatees, marine acoustics, coral reef research, careers in marine science, satellite oceanography, and marine geology.
