Description:

IPCA is a science-oriented conservation organization dedicated to the study and conservation of the native ecosystems of the tropical Indo-Pacific region, and support for traditional peoples in their stewardship of these globally significant natural resources. IPCA currently has three projects, involving scientific research, terrestrial and marine protected areas management, and community-based areas management, in eastern Indonesia (Papua / Irian Jaya). One of these projects is Indonesia's Lorentz National Park / World Heritage Site, the largest protected area in the Asia-Pacific and the only one to span a full altitudinal transect from marine, to tropical forest, to alpine areas and equatorial glaciers. IPCA works in cooperation and partnership with government entities, universities and museums, and is committed to working with local communities to preserve their forests, rivers, and seas as _living landscapes_ that both protect biodiversity and support and sustain local livelihoods.
