Description: 

The Swire Institute of Marine Science was built with a grant from The Swire Group of Companies and was officially opened in November, 1990. It is integrated into The Dept. of Ecology and Biodiversity (DEB) at The University of Hong Kong. The Institute is situated on the southern tip of Hong Kong island adjacent to Hong Kong's only no-take marine reserve, The Cape d'Aguilar Marine Reserve. SWIMS has on-site residence's as well as good aquaria, diving facilities, well-equipped dry-labs and is used as a centre for marine research by staff and postgraduate students of DEB, and visiting scientists.
