we are an NGO (Non Governmental Organization) namely _YAYASAN KONSERVASI LAUT (YKL) INDONESIA_ or in English as MARINE CONSERVATION FOUNDATION INDONESIA., , YKL was established on January 23rd, 1997 which was founded by alumni from Marine Science and Technology Department, Hasanuddin University at Makassar City, South Sulawesi Province, Republic of Indonesia., The movement platform as our vision is realization of common commitment in utilizing marine and coastal natural resources, sustainably and wisely, based on scientific terms. The common commitment above, refer to all marine and coastal natural resources stakeholders, such as government agencies, non governmental organisations, research institutes, universities, entrepreneurs, private sectors, political parties, other organisations which relevant with marine and coastal areas, and absolutely grass root communities (poor fishermen and pond farmers)., The missions of YKL are :, -. Marine and Coastal Environmental Conservation , -. Coastal and Islands Community Empowerment , -. Application of Environmental-Friendly Alternative Technology., Those three aspects were based on realities, that exploitation of marine and coastal natural resources are going on raise and indicated without sustainable orientation. This condition was proved with so many reports of marine and coastal environmental damages such as coral reefs degradation, mangroves deforestation, beaches abrasion, sea waters intrusion to inland water resources, sedimentation and much more in Indonesia., In order to avoid the on-going marine and coastal environmental damages, so the application of modern conservation concept is a must., , Although it is a large work that must involve community, government agencies, entrepreneurs and academic society, but the usage will be continuously., , Conservation concept placing community which oftenly being neglected, on strategic position. Because for whatsoever reason, they are the first, whom get on the negative impact from environmental damages. That_s why there are two important things that must be paid serious attention, they are community economical empowerment and improvement of awareness for environmental conservation. , ,
